RE: transform PDF-to-image fax via SMTP problem! ~Kirk Bretumioden 14.Jan.04 07:36 PM a Web browser Domino Server All ReleasesAll Platforms
We are still using the old Fax for Domino (FxD) on a Windows-NT box even though it has not been supported for awhile. But from what I remember it was dropped from every platform except the i-series and re-branded Domino Fax.
I don't know about the i-series, but under NT we have to have a "helper" program that can read the file attachment loaded on the server so that it can expand the attachment and then convert it to a fax. Therefore if we want to fax an email with a PDF attachment, you have to have at least Acrobat Reader loaded on the Domino Fax server. With FxD there were a few other settings in the FxD configuration database, but hopefully you won't need to use these anymore.
If you want a .doc attachment to be converted, you have to load either MS Word or a "Word file viewer" program on the server that is running Domino Fax so that the .doc files are associated with a helper program.
BTW, if anyone can recommend a good substitute for FxD that is not tied quite so closely to Lotus Domino (I still have to run Domino R5.0.2c on that server), I would greatly appreciate any advice.
